Famed Iran singer to take dramatic turn

Renowned Iranian vocalist Ali Zand-Vakili has been announced as a stage actor in the upcoming theatrical play 'The Battle Between Rostam and Sohrab'.

According to Mehr News Agency, the production team behind the play, directed by Hossein Parsaiee, said Zand-Vakili will play the role of "Sirang" in the project. 

'The Battle Between Rostam and Sohrab' is a loose adaptation of  "The Shahnameh", a literary masterpiece by internationally renowned Persian poet Abolqasem Ferdowsi.

The tragedy of Rostam and Sohrab forms part of the 10th-century Persian epic Shahnameh.

The play is set to be staged in Iran in the summer.
